Scenic Railway This type of ride developed from the steam driven Switchback, and conversions from the latter were quite common. Instead of the steam engine mounted on a centre truck at the centre of the ride for driving purposes, the eight coupled cars were fitted with electric motors, and pick up rails fitted in-between the running rails of the track. The removal of the steam centre drive left the centre of the ride completely clear, and massive fair organs, many made redundant from outdated Bioscope Shows were fitted into the centre of these rides. At the back of the organ elaborate scenery usually surrounded a waterfall feature.
