The Late Philip Bradley began taking fairground photographs in 1936, and continued to do so for over sixty years. He began making notes on fairs at the age of twelve in 1932, and built up one of the most comprehensive archives of photographs and notes in the country. This book is a selection of photographs and the accompanying notes up to the end of 1938.
The book covers an interesting period when the London area fairs still had Switchbacks and Scenic Railways alongside the many modern electric machines which were becoming more popular. It was also the era that steam transport on the fairground was begining to give way to 'heavy oil tractors'.
